Romancier et nouvelliste américain, Francis Scott Fitzgerald est né à Saint-Paul (Minnesota) le 24 septembre 1896. En 1920, il épouse il épouse Zelda Sayrepuis mène avec elle une vide mondaine brillante, exhibitionniste, fragile et fondamentalement instable. lors d'un séjour sur la côte d'Azur, il rédige son roman le plus connu, Gatsby le Magnifique, qui sera publié en 1925. Après l'échec de "Tendre est la nuit", il sombre dans la maladie et l'alcoolisme. Une attaque cardiaque le terrasse à Hollywood le 21 décembre 1940.
